TikTok Spark Ads Cheatsheet
Spark Ads as a lookup sheet: authorization codes, post-first rules, inherited social proof, CTA overlay, expiry bands and QA versus cold in-feed uploads.
Spark Ads put spend behind a real TikTok post so likes, comments and the handle travel with the paid impression. That inherited proof is why Spark often beats a cold in-feed upload of the same file. This sheet is codes, timing, CTA overlay, expiry and QA — post first, then buy, or you are just running a native-looking standard ad.
Spark is a post you boost, not a file you upload
Publish to TikTok first — brand account or a creator's, with permission. Let it sit for a few hours so there is something to inherit; a zero-engagement post behaves like a cold start. Captions, sound and on-screen text from the organic post stick into the ad, so write them as ad copy, not as an afterthought. At ad level choose use-existing-post / Spark and paste the post URL or authorization code. You never need the creator's login. Preview the live like-count before you publish. Editing the organic post after the ad is live can disturb delivery; lock the cut before you Spark it.
Authorization codes are the operational risk
Brand posts: Share → Ad settings → authorize the post to generate a video code. Creator posts: they generate the same code and send it. Video-scoped codes are cleaner for one-off collabs than account-level whitelist. Codes are time-limited — commonly on the order of ~30 days from issue — after which the ad can simply stop spending without looking like a targeting problem. Spreadsheet creator, post URL, code, issue date, reminder at ~7 days before expiry. If a healthy Spark goes quiet, check code status before you touch budget. Un-authorize before deleting the organic post or you can strand the ad.
Keep the native object; add the button; pick where comments go
Spark inherits the post's display name and caption; you cannot rewrite those in Ads Manager. You can overlay a CTA button (Shop Now, Learn More, Download) and a destination URL, which is the format's actual advantage: native video plus a trackable button. Route engagement to the original post if you want the thread to stay native; route to the brand account only if you will actually community-manage from zero. Spark and non-Spark can share a campaign, but a dedicated ad group per source makes the 15–30% cost-per-result gap (when it exists) readable. AI UGC still needs a caption that sounds like a recommendation or the Spark advantage disappears.
How to use the tables below
Use the spec table when the file is still organic, the code table as the ops checklist, then targeting/CTA, performance bands, and the QA gate. Klip Kanvas can render the 9:16 talking-head; Spark still requires posting that file to TikTok before Ads Manager. Do not treat a Spark of a presenter-looking avatar as a creativity problem if the post never earned a comment. Unlock for the setup and for every creator renewal. Confirm live minimums and caption rules in Ads Manager on the day you build.
6 tables: Spark vs non-Spark specs, authorization-code ops, caption/CTA/engagement routing, targeting and budget floors, performance and expiry bands, plus a 10-point launch QA — lookup rows with · bands, not a narrative.
