AI Disclosure & Synthetic Media Checklist for Ad Creative
Pre-upload checklist for AI UGC ads: when disclosure is required, platform toggles, on-creative wording, metadata, avatar/voice consent records — with the advertiser owning compliance.
Synthetic faces, cloned voices and generated stills can look like real people making real claims. This checklist maps when disclosure is required, the wording we put on ads, the metadata and consent records to keep, and the pre-upload pass/fail. It is not legal advice — the advertiser owns compliance, not the renderer.
Disclosure is two jobs, not one caption
A UGC-style avatar ad can need two different disclosures at once, and collapsing them into a tiny '#ad #ai' in the caption is how teams think they are done when they are not. Job one is the material-connection disclosure: this is advertising, this is paid, this is not an independent review. Job two is the synthetic-identity disclosure: this person is not a real customer, this voice may be generated, this footage is digitally created. Branded-content tools do not automatically tick AI labels, and an AI label does not automatically satisfy endorsement rules. Treat them as separate rows on the same checklist, in the language of the video, on screen long enough to read. If a viewer could think a real person is reporting a real result, you are in the stricter bucket.
Platform toggles are not a legal opinion
Meta, TikTok and Google each have their own AI or digitally created media declarations, and none of them is a substitute for consumer-protection law in the country you are buying. Completing the Ads Manager toggle is the adult move; skipping it to 'feel authentic' is an integrity problem waiting to become an account review. Detection and labelling can still run if you stay quiet. Names of fields move — 'AI info', 'How this ad was made', AIGC labels — so open current help the day you publish rather than hard-coding a 2024 screenshot into the SOP. Bulk uploaders must map the field or you will ship forty unlabelled variants in an afternoon. Two UIs, two clicks, one honest file: a Meta toggle does not cover TikTok, and a TikTok AIGC mark does not cover Google My Ad Center.
Who owns this — and what we will not certify
The advertiser of record owns the click, the claim and the label. Agencies should write that into the SOW so a rejection is not a vendor fight. Klip Kanvas can surface a recommended disclosure, burn a short factual caption into the 9:16 file, and generate the batch; we cannot certify that a given ad is lawful in the US, UK, EU, India or anywhere else, and a green review in Ads Manager is not counsel. This sheet is a practical pre-upload list, not a legal opinion. If you run health, finance, testimonials or anything a reasonable person would treat as an endorsement, get your own reviewer. Then keep shipping 15–60s tests with the labels completed. Looking real is exactly when disclosure is most relevant — not a reason to hide the method.
How to use the tables below
Work the locked sheet as a gate, not as reading. First table tells you whether the media type is in scope. Second is the platform-declaration click path. Third is on-creative wording we actually put on files — short, factual, not a joke, not a twelve-word legal essay in the first two seconds. Fourth is the consent and metadata record you keep so a clone, a stock face and an uploaded voice do not get mixed up. Fifth is the pass/fail QA before spend. If a row would have been guessable from this preview, it would not belong behind the gate: the value column is the threshold, the wording, or the artefact, not a restatement that 'you should disclose'.
5 checklists inside: media-type disclosure trigger, platform declaration clicks (Meta / TikTok / Google / Snap), on-creative wording we actually use, avatar/voice consent records, and a 12-row pre-upload pass/fail.
