Home & Kitchen Ads Cheatsheet: Demo Formats and Benchmarks
Demo-led formats for home and kitchen ads, observed CPM/CTR/CPA bands, second-by-second skeletons, problem-framing rules and a vertical seasonality calendar.
Home and kitchen ads win on the demo, not the face. This sheet is the formats that hold, the second-by-second skeletons we actually brief, and the vertical-specific benchmark bands — including how stills-only files leak in the middle. The product doing the job is the ad; the avatar names the problem and the payoff.
If you cannot show the job, you do not have a home ad
Viewers in this category decide in the satisfying-result window — the stain lifting, the drawer closing, the egg sliding off the pan — not in the testimonial. A talking head with no demo is a brand film, and hold rate usually collapses between 5 and 10 seconds. Generated hands fail chopping, pouring, scrubbing, blending, assembling. Generated objects drift in colour, logo and handle shape, so they cannot be your SKU. Plan the shot list as if the generator cannot see your product, because for demo purposes it cannot. Problem B-roll can be messy and even stock; the product doing the work has to be yours, filmed, on the actual counter.
Formats, not vibes
Five demo formats cover almost every SKU: mess-to-clean, old-way-versus-new, time-saved loop, satisfying mechanism (drawer, seal, slice), and recipe-or-use with the gadget as the beat. Gifting is a seasonal overlay, not a sixth format — it works for things people already wrap and fails for refills and chore liquids. Invisible benefits (air, noise) need a visible proxy, not a CGI particle miracle. Expert-presenter energy is usually wrong on day one; start with the tired home cook who actually does the chore, in a slightly messy kitchen, not a staging-company island. Over-designed sets are a conversion tax.
A 30-second clock you can brief
0–3s the mess, the noise, or the gadget in frame. 3–8s avatar names the old way. 8–22s real demo, cut every 2–3 seconds. 22–26s the clean result, held long enough to read. 26–30s CTA plus pack. Do not invert that with a 15-second founder story before anyone sees the product work. In a 15-second cut the demo is the ad. Give the demo 10–15 seconds in a 30 — copywriters always short-change it. Klip Kanvas intercuts a six-clip phone bank (pick up, in use, result, macro, pack, wide setup) against that skeleton so you can test 3 hooks × 2 avatars without restaging the mess. The cheapest lift in this vertical is a better three seconds of the result, not a new face.
How these bands differ from beauty and supplements
Home CPMs usually sit below wellness and beauty. Hold is a demo metric: filmed result shots live in a healthier band than stills-only catalog loops. Refunds are lower than apparel; the silent killer is a result in the ad stronger than the PDP (high CTR, bad CPA). Seasonality is problem-led — Christmas cupboard overflow versus exam-season packed lunches — not a new product film. Numbers below are our observed home-and-kitchen accounts, cold US Meta Purchase unless labelled. They are not the supplement sheet with the labels changed.
5 home-and-kitchen tables: observed CPM/CTR/CPA/hold bands, five demo-format scripts with timings, required clip bank, policy traps for household claims, and a chore-calendar seasonality plus kill rules.
