Skincare Ads Cheatsheet: Before/After Rules, Benchmarks and Hooks

Before/after rules for beauty ads, observed skincare CPM/CTR/CPA bands, routine and texture hooks, hybrid demo mix and shade-casting notes for paid social.

Beauty ads are won in close-up, which is exactly where avatars still struggle. This sheet is the before/after rules that keep files eligible, the skincare-specific benchmark bands we see, and the hook families that stop the thumb without a seven-day miracle. Texture honesty is a performance choice here, not only an aesthetic one.

Before/after is a policy format, not a default beauty language

Meta is aggressive on before-and-after for personal attributes — skin, spots, ageing, 'glow' morphs. UK and EU typicality rules still apply even when a cut sneaks through. AI-generated afters are worse: you invented a face. A spoken 'clearer in 7 days' is still a time-boxed transformation. Real, consented customer photos can mislead if they are extreme and presented as typical. Prefer process: texture coming out, rub-in on a real hand or cheek, the pack, the step in the routine. If you truly have typical, documented results, put them on the landing page first and keep paid social conservative. A split-screen thumbstop is not a right you are owed.

Hooks that work without a morph

The job of the product in the routine (cleanse, moisturise, SPF), pilling or smell or a step that takes too long, texture-in-first-frame, shade range, a single ingredient without dermatology theatre, 'this replaced two things', travel or gym-bag routine. GRWM and AM/PM step-throughs give you natural cut points for real B-roll every 3–5 seconds, which hides avatar limits. What underperforms or gets rejected: fake dermatologist lectures, porcelain-mannequin glow, humiliation of the 'before', 40-second unbroken confession, seven-step rituals nobody will do. Keep spoken steps under 15-word sentences. Put education on the page. Put the reason to stop and the reason to click in the video.

The demo the model cannot do

Avatars can open and close; they cannot convincingly spread cream, blend concealer, or prove finish. Teeth, hair edges, wet-look highlights and generated fingers on a cheek are the tells. Hybrid is the default: avatar hook and CTA, real application in the middle. Three to six short phone clips will carry a first 6-ad test — ordinary bathroom light, the real shade, the real SKU. Manufacturer pack spins are cutaways, not the ad. Klip Kanvas is how you multiply a claims-safe routine script across two faces and three hooks once those clips exist; it is not a way to prompt dermatology-grade texture. If the whole ad is a cheek the camera crawls toward, film it.

How these numbers differ from supplements and apparel

Skincare CPMs sit between crowded wellness and cheaper home inventory. Texture shots can manufacture hook; you still need hold and CPA so you are not scaling ASMR clickers. Refunds are usually lower than apparel returns, but shade mismatch and oversold glow will show up as silent non-repeat rather than a neat return reason. All bands below are our observed skincare accounts, cold US Meta Purchase unless labelled otherwise. Do not paste supplement or fashion CPMs into this file — the auctions and the proof jobs are different.

6 locked skincare tables: before/after pass-fail, observed CPM/CTR/CPA/AOV bands, hook families with target hook rates, hybrid demo mix and shade casting, seasonality, and kill rules unique to beauty.
