CTA Library for Video Ads: Wording, Timing and Placement
Spoken, on-screen and button CTA lines organized by intent, plus timing marks for 15s/30s/45s ads and an urgency ladder with expected CTR impact.
The hook gets the view; the CTA gets the click. Most ads lose clicks not because the offer is weak but because the close is vague, mistimed, or repeated until it sounds desperate. This library covers what to say, where to put it on screen, when to say it, and how hard to push.
A CTA is three decisions, not one line
Every close bundles three choices: the words (spoken line), the visual (on-screen overlay), and the mechanism (the platform button label under the video). Treat them as one decision and you'll under-use two of your three shots at conversion. The spoken line carries tone and urgency, the overlay carries the action in three words or less for people watching muted, and the button label sets viewer expectation for what happens after the tap. Match all three to the same intent — a soft, curiosity-driven spoken CTA paired with a hard 'SHOP NOW' overlay reads as inconsistent and quietly suppresses CTR.
Timing matters more than wording
A perfectly written CTA dropped at the wrong second underperforms a mediocre one placed correctly. The rule that holds across most accounts we work with: never ask for the click before at least half the proof or demonstration content has aired, and never let more than 2 spoken CTAs land in a single ad — a third measurably drops CTR because it starts reading as a hard sell rather than a natural close. On short-form ads under 20 seconds, one CTA at the very end beats two scattered through the body.
Urgency is a dial, not a switch
Scarcity and urgency phrasing lift CTR, but only within limits and only when the account has warm or retargeting inventory to justify it. Applying countdown-level urgency to a cold, top-of-funnel audience who's never heard of the brand reads as manipulative and can hurt trust more than it helps clicks. Use the urgency ladder below to match phrasing intensity to where the viewer actually sits in your funnel — and if you're batch-producing CTA variants with a tool like Klip Kanvas, generate one soft and one urgent version of every ad so you can split the difference by audience temperature instead of guessing.
5 reference tables inside: 8 spoken CTA lines by intent, 8 on-screen text overlays, 6 platform button-label picks, timing marks for 15s/30s/45s ads, and a 6-rung urgency ladder with expected CTR impact.
